Choosing a Location with the Best Book Club Atmosphere
Whether choosing an outside location or hosting at someone’s home, creating a welcoming atmosphere is essential. Due to the fact that most of us our moms with kids that make hosting difficult, we usually select a restaurant, brewery, or wine bar to have our book club meetings. Here are a few things we look for:
- Noise levels – this is the MOST IMPORTANT! I once attended a book club where we couldn’t hear each other at all.
- Circular tables are best for discussions if available.
- We like to choose restaurants that somewhat go with the theme if at all possible! For example, we ate at a restaurant called “Lakeside Tavern” for an Elin Hilderbrand book. When we read “Deep End” by Ali Hazelwood we had a pool party! (this is not a recommendation for that particular book though hah).
- If hosting at home, create a sign-up list for drinks and food that are themed with the book!
A cozy atmosphere encourages open discussions and makes everyone feel welcome. Once again, the most important thing to consider is NOISE! Make sure to find somewhere that you can hear each other.
